The player is first introduced to Alistair McCubbin after Rudolf Taleweaver mentions there is a trader visiting Accordia who is willing to give out trading advice free of charge.
Introduction[]
After approaching the mysterious visitor, Alistair McCubbin introduces himself and says:
- "Ho! Accordia's would-be-saviour in the flesh! The name's Alistair McCubbin, happy to be here and to help!"
- My dear mother fled Accordia as it crumbled. She used to speak of it so fondly... I wish I could have witnessed its majesty myself."
- "If you heed my Trading advice, perhaps I'll still have that chance!"
- "The first rule of trading is to have something worth selling. Let's see if your fishing friend can catch a decent Rubyfish, shall we?"
- "I recall the waters of Woodcutt Isle being full of them last time I holidayed there..."
Quests[]
Give Rubyfish[]
The player is then sent on a quest to go to Woodcutt Isle to catch a Rubyfish to give to Alistair McCubbin.
Upon returning with the Rubyfish and approaching Alistair McCubbin he says:
- "Did you manage to find a Rubyfish? I recall the waters of Woodcutt Isle being full of them last time I holidayed there..."
The player then has an option to select either "Nope" or "Sure!" to answer his question.
If "Sure!" is selected a green arrow pointing toward the ground appears with a bubble with a fish inside it.
After dragging the bubble towards Alistair McCubbin he will say:
- "A quality catch! Now we have something to work with."
Place Fishmonger Stall[]
Alistair McCubbin then assigns the reward for giving a Rubyfish and says:
- "Now you've got a fish, you'll need somewhere to sell it."
- "Fortunately, it just so happens that I have this Fishmonger Stall. Take it, it's yours!"
- "All I ask in return is that you open your inventory and place the Fishmonger Stall in front of the Seabeard Manor ruins."
Alistair McCubbin then assigns a quest to place the Fishmonger Stall.
After placing the Fishmonger Stall, Alistair McCubbin will say the following when approached:
- "And with that, the foundations for your commercial empire are laid, young <insert player's name>. Congratulations!"
Repair Trader House[]
Alistair McCubbin will reward the player for placing the Fishmonger Stall and say:
- "Before you can hire a trader to sell you'll need to provide suitable accommodation for your crew."
- "You'll require the services of the one and only Grout Brothers again, so I'd suggest stocking up on Pearls!"
- "Got it? Right then, time to restore that Trader House. Get to it!"
Alistair McCubbin will then send the player on a quest to restore the Trader House.
After the Trader House is repaired and the player approaches Alistair McCubbin he will say:
- "It's just as mother described...Wonderful! The final piece of the puzzle is a willing Fishmonger to sell you hauls."
Hire Fish Trader[]
After giving the player the reward for rebuilding the Trader House, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "Good job I planned ahead and advertised the role, isn't it? And is that an experienced applicant waiting at the docks?"
- "I rather think it is! Yes, I know that lad knows his fish. Snap him up!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to hire a Fish Trader.
After hiring Gregor Monkfish as the Fish Trader, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "Excellent recruitment skills!"
Supply Fishmonger 2 times[]
Alistair McCubbin will then reward the player for hiring a Fish Trader (also known as a Fishmonger), and say:
- "Now, a good Fishmonger can't turn a profit with just one fish. You need to stock up!"
- "I'd suggest responsibly sourcing at least two fish to keep your trader busy. Don't forget that shellfish count too!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to supply the fishmonger two times.
After giving Gregor Monkfish at least two fish Alistair McCubbin will say the following when approached:
- "That'll do it - now you are really in business!"
Speak to Rudolf Taleweaver[]
After giving the player the reward for the previous quest, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "That should suffice for now, but there'll come a time when you'll want to expand. When that time comes, you know where to find me!"
- "Seek out Rudolf, my able-apprentice - I believe he has some important news!"
The player is then sent on a quest to speak to Rudolf Taleweaver.
Have Food Stall on Home Island[]
After completing several quests for Rudolf Taleweaver, Rudolf gives the player the Larona Shallows Map with the quest Speak to Emelia Quickblade.Upon opening up the Larona Shallows Map, a green exclamation point will appear above Alistair McCubbin's head. When approached, he says:
- "There's a very famous architect in Larona Village who sells trading stalls. I'm sure Emelia can tell you more about him!"
- "For what it's worth, I'd consider investing in a Food Stall. They're money magnets!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to have a Food Stall on the home island.
After placing the Food Stall, Alistair McCubbin will say the following when approached:
- "I'm glad you agreed with my sound business advice. A Food Stall is an excellent investment!"
Learn to make Red Paint[]
After rewarding the player for placing a Food Stall, Alistair McCubbin will say:
- "If we're to accelerate your efforts to rebuild, it'd help if you knew how to make useful materials, like Red Paint."
- "You can find Jamie Grindsweep in Bullhorn Farm's windmill. I'm sure he'll teach you!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to learn how to make red paint.
Upon returning to Alistair McCubbin after learning how to make Red Paint he says:
- "So you're a Red Paint mixing master now? That's going to come in very handy soon!"
Have 2 Trader House on Home Island[]
After rewarding the player for learning how to make red paint, Alistair McCubbin will say:
- "I think it's about time Accordia welcomed another trader!"
- "Of course, to do so you'll need to have somewhere for them to call home."
- "The architect in Larona Village sells Trader House Blueprints - it's an essential purchase!"
- "When you've got one, return home, open you inventory and place it wherever you'd like the Grout Brothers to start work on it."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to build a second trader house on the home island.
Hire Food Trader[]
Once the player has completed building a second trader house, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "Would you look at that! No sooner do you have a new Trader House do you have Trader ready to move in. Funny how the world works!"
Alistair McCubbin rewards the player for having 2 trader houses on home island and says:
- "All pieces are in place for you hire a Food Trader, so you should go and do exactly that!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to hire a food trader.
After hiring Edith Soupsmith as the food trader, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "Top hiring skills, there. Now it's time to figure out how you're going to invest all that extra money you'll be making!"
Supply Food Stall 2 times[]
After rewarding the player for hiring a food trader, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "It's my favourite time - money making time!"
- "Find a few delicious edibles and give them to your Food Trader to sell. They'll keep don't worry."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to supply the food trader two times.
After giving Edith Soupsmith at least two pieces of food Alistair McCubbin will say the following when approached:
- "Excellent! I think the visitors will welcome an alternative to fish."
- "Just don't forget to keep that food stall stocked of delicious goodies!"
Have Woodwork Stall on Home Island[]
After rewarding the player for giving the food trader two or more items to sell, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "Planks aren't just a great building material, they're also a valuable commodity. Which is to say you should sell them!"
- "For that to happen you'll need to snatch up the Woodwork Stall from our friend the architect on Larona Village."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to have a Woodwork Stall on the home island.
After placing the Woodwork Stall Alistair McCubbin will say the following when approached:
- "What comes next? Hmm...Come back to me in a moment."
Have 3 Trader House on Home Island[]
Alistair McCubbin rewards the player for placing the woodwork stall and says:
- "Right, I've remembered what comes next - hopefully you have too, my loyal student!"
- "There's an old saying 'A trader with no bed trades elsewhere instead."
- "Time to put some hard-earned coin down for another Trader House Blueprints from the Larona Village architect."
- "Then you can build another Trader House. You'll have a whole village of traders at this rate!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to build a third trader house on the home island.
Upon approaching Alistair McCubbin after building a third trader house he says:
- "And lo! A perfect abode for a Wood Trader."
Hire Wood Trader[]
After rewarding the player for completing a third trader house, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "We have a qualified Wood Trader ready and willing to start work. Get hiring, champ!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to hire a Wood Trader.
After hiring Bertha Birchwood as the wood trader Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "And Accordia has another new resident. Now to maker her earn her keep."
Supply Wood Trader 2 times[]
After rewarding the player for successfully hiring a wood trader, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "We both know that an empty stall is no stall at all, so let's get the Woodwork Stall piled high with stock."
- "Return to Woodcutt Isle and craft some wooden items for your Wood Trader] to sell, 'wood' you?"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to supply the wood trader two times.
After giving Bertha Birchwood at least two wooden items, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "Fish, food and wooden goods - Accordia is fast becoming an essential shopping destination!"
After giving the player the reward for the quest, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "I've got a great idea for another stall to fill your capacious pockets with even more coin!"
- "I absolutely refuse to share my idea until your return with some Monster Parts. It's just the way I work, sorry!"
Have Monster Parts Stall on Home Island[]
After completing some quests for Emelia Quickblade and obtaining a few Monster Parts, the player will once again see a green exclamation point appear above Alistair McCubbin's head. When approached, Alistair says:
- "Oh! Is that a Monster Part in your pocket? Ah, yes there it is! Let's take a peek at you..."
- "A fine specimen! Now you've got a Warrior you can start farming the bits and pieces that slain monsters leave behind."
- "Disgusting, isn't it? People are strange, though; they think this stuff has special medicinal properties - and who are we to argue?"
- "This is a business opportunity, <Insert player's name>! Make a dash for the Larona Village Architect and buy a Monster Parts Stall."
- "With a stall in place, a Monster Parts Trader will surely follow."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to place a Monster Parts Stall on the home island.
After placing the Monster Parts Stall, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "That's the stuff, <Insert player's name> - yet another source of sweet, sweet coin for the island. Kudos!"
Have 4 Trader House on Home Island[]
After rewarding the player for placing the Monster Parts Stall, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "Now that we have a Monster Parts Stall, we're going to need a Trader House to attract someone to sell these disgusting body bits!"
- "As ever, the Architect on Larona Village has the plans for such a building."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to build a fourth trader houses on the home island.
Once the player has successfully completed building a fourth trader house, approaching Alistair McCubbin prompts him to say:
- "Yet another Trader House for the collection! Now let's hope that someone applies for the job..."
Hire Monster Parts Trader[]
After rewarding the player for having four trader houses on the home island, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "My word! Drenge Lurkfiend, an expert in monster anatomy, is on the island!"
- "Do you... Do you think he'd be interested in running the Monster Parts Stall? Only one way to find out - talk to him!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to hire a Monster Parts Trader.
After hiring Drenge Lurkfiend as the monster part trader, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "He accepted! You couldn't wish for a more knowledgeable salesman! I mean, he's a little strange, but..."
- "So many stalls to keep stocked now, but I know you can do it. Let's turn these revenue streams into revenue rivers!"
Alistair McCubbin will then give the player the reward for completing the quest.
If approached again right after this, Alistair McCubbin says the following:
- "Hey, do you know what's really hot right now? Vintage!"
- "Visitors to Accordia will go crazy for antiques and other retro collectables, so start sourcing some, pronto!"
Have Antiques Stall on Home Island[]
After completing several quests for Dr Cornelius and Etta Cornelius, among others, Dr Cornelius sends the player on a quest to help Alistair McCubbin, at which point the player will once again see a green exclamation point appear above Alistair McCubbin's head. When approached, Alistair says:
- "Accordia needs its very own Antiques Stall!"
- "Get one built and your visitors will be attracted to it like flies to another, incredibly attractive fly."
- "It just so happens that the Larona Village architect has plans for an Antiques Stall. I love it when a plan comes together..."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to place an Antiques Stall on the home island.
Upon approaching him after placing the Antiques Stall, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "Yet another string added to the Accordia business bow. Can you guess what I'm going to ask next?"
Have 5 Trader Houses on Home Island[]
After rewarding the player for having an an Antiques Stall on the home island, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "Bingo! You need another Trader House for you soon-to-be-hired Antiques Stall trader."
- "Now, you may have seen this coming and bought the Trader House Blueprints already, but if not..."
- "It's another trip to Larona Village architect for you! Oh yeah, don't forget to build the thing too."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to have five trader houses on the home island.
Upon approaching Alistair McCubbin after the fifth Trader House is built, he says:
- "Another quality Trader House constructed - feel free to decorate it to keep that Prestige rating soaring."
Hire Antiques Trader[]
After rewarding the player for having five trader houses on the home island, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "And, as if by magic, there's a qualified Antiques Trader just waiting to be snapped up at the quay!"
- "I didn't tell anyone - did you? Who cares! Just don't leave them standing there!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to hire an Antiques Trader.
After hiring Mary Bygone as the antiques trader, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "The path to becoming an entrepreneur is actually pretty simple - just don't tell anyone else or they'll all be at it!"
Alistair McCubbin will then give the player the reward.
If Alistair McCubbin is approached directly after this, he says the following:
- "Resuming trade with the Doza would be lucrative... Yes, very lucrative indeed! Return when you have safe passage to Ironblack City.
Have Metal Trader Stall on Home Island[]
After gaining access to the Doza Seas and completing many, many more quests, the player eventually hires a miner crewmember and learns how to mine ore. After the player has successfully mined iron ore and refined it into iron bars at the Ironblack Forge, the player will once again see a green exclamation point appear above Alistair McCubbin's head back at home island. When approached, Alistair says:
- "You should buy yourself a Metal Trader Stall from the Larona Village Architect, let me know when it is set up here!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to place a Metal Trader Stall on the home island.
Have 6 Trader House on Home Island[]
After placing the Metal Trader Stall, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "You know the drill, construct yourself another Trader House!"
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to have six trader houses on the home island.
Hire Metal Trader[]
Once the player has completed building the sixth trader house, Alistair McCubbin says:
- "That's everything in place, time to hire yourself a Metalwork Trader - you should find him by the dock."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to hire a Metalwork Trader.
Supply Metalwork Stall 2 times[]
After hiring Bronn Orestack as the Metalwork Trader, Alistair McCubbin says the following when approached:
- "Let's test our new Metalwork Trader's mettle! Restock the stall a few times."
Alistair McCubbin then sends the player on a quest to supply the Metalwork Trader two times.
